Rugged computer solution impresses

Jon Lawson

The new PIP40 generation is based on the latest CPUs that Intel has introduced. As with all other MPL products, the solution is fanless and complements its embedded computer family. Decades of experience in engineering and manufacturing extremely robust embedded solutions have made the PIP40 family possible.

Fit, form and function (FFF) of the PIP over the past 25 years and the excellent reliability are key arguments. The units are almost completely immune against shock and vibration and the extended temperatures complete the rugged and long-term availability of the eighth and ninth generation product family. The basic version is equipped with interfaces such as display port, DVI-D, USB 3.1, RS232/422/485. Further expansions will be done over the internal expansion interfaces such as mPCIe, m.2 or PCIe/104. Hence WLAN, LTE, GPIOs, CAN, etc., of the user’s choice can easy and quickly be integrated into the systems. This makes the solution highly flexible and offers cost-efficient customisation. As mass storage, SATA, mSATA and m.2 can be chosen.

Does an application require TPM 2.0 (trusted platform) support and TCG compliance? If so, that’s no problem: it is available as add-on module. The PIP40 family can be put into various standby mode levels (even below 95mW) and can be started over wake-on-LAN (WOL). The operational power consumption is between 5 and 65W and the power consumption level can be limited. This enables the use for low power as well as for power hungry applications. The vPro technology expands the use of the PIP40 family solution for remote usage.

As a first solution of the PIP40 family, MPL is offering the PIP46 with the i7-8850H embedded CPU. The PIP46 is now available in standard housing with DIN-Rail or flange mounting. The open frame version (CPU board on cooling plate) is best suited for installation in an existing cabinet and tight areas. For applications with vibrations, the solution can be supplied bonded, coated and equipped with lockable headers.

The PIP40 family is engineered & manufactured by MPL in Switzerland and meets or exceeds the most common technical standards.
