RS Components Ltd
RS Components and its sister company Allied Electronics together form Electrocomponents plc, the world’s largest distributor of electronic and maintenance products. Sourced from over 2,500 suppliers, today the RS breadth of product range comprises over 500,000 products. As the leader in catalogue distribution across global markets, RS has gained a credible reputation as the trusted and reliable source for engineers world-wide. In the last financial year, RS expanded the electronics range significantly across the world introducing 41K new products from major brand suppliers including Tyco Electronics, Microchip, Agilent & Molex. Today around 40% of the Group’s sales come from the electronics product range.
As the needs of engineers rapidly evolve, there has never been a better time for the high service catalogue distribution industry to closely support customers through all stages of their design cycle.
The catalogue distribution model provides customers with the broadest range of independent technologies and products available through multiple channels. A customer can browse online, select their product, place their order and have it delivered ready for use in their project all within 24 hours.
However, catalogue these days does not just mean the traditional paper epic used to browse and select products. The use of e-commerce as a channel has radically transformed and enhanced the way business is conducted and the service offered to customers. With 50% of RS business traded on-line today, and with a growth rate of 15% per annum, the shift from paper to on-line is relentless and it is the distributor’s role to make the customer’s on-line journey as painless as possible.
This year, RS has launched the first phase in a series of essential online design resources available for customers. DesignSpark is the centrepiece of multiple initiatives that provide an authoritative online design environment for engineers. DesignSpark is an online gateway providing trusted and reliable information and resources, bringing together design information and user generated reviews from engineers across the globe to speed up the design process. DesignSpark also offers free-of-charge access for members to a range of design tools, hosted in the Spark Store. Included in the store is the first of a range of new tools launched by RS, DesignSpark PCB; a fully featured PCB design tool. Visitors simply need to register as a DesignSpark member to unlock the full functionality of DesignSpark PCB.
Component Chooser gives customers access to the fastest, most accurate parametric search engine, with over 6 million attributes held on 250,000 electronics components. Over 45,000 3D CAD models ready for download in all popular CAD formats are available, giving customers the largest online CAD model store for electro-mechanical products. Additionally, the RS Embedded Development Platform has linked up with semiconductor manufacturers to provide new design engineers with a fast and simple platform for testing of virtual designs.
The approach at RS is to coach customers through all aspects of their design challenges from technical support through to information and guidance on regulatory issues. RS provides unbiased, independent support for products across all technologies and applications. For more information go to www.rs-components.com
