Mining decisions amped by analytics

Fleet management analytics enables faster decision-making for mining operators.

Efficient and safe mining operations rely on the availability of timely and precise information at every level of personnel. Fleet management plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal resource utilisation, minimising fuel wastage, and boosting overall productivity. However, the efficacy of fleet management systems (FMS) can be compromised when data insights are slow to appear or challenging to visualise.

Addressing these concerns, technology company Hexagon has introduced Fleet Analytics 2.0, an integral component of its OP Pro technology, the company’s foundational fleet management solution deployed in mines across over 80 countries globally. Launched in October 2023, Fleet Analytics 2.0 aims to transform the data generated and processed by OP Pro into visually compelling dashboards.

Designed by industry experts with decades of combined experience, Fleet Analytics 2.0 can assist the way mining personnel interact with fleet data. By offering real-time visibility through visually impactful dashboards, the system can help enhance decision-making capabilities, making it an invaluable tool for various roles within a mining operation, Hexagon says.

The dashboards generated by Fleet Analytics 2.0 cater to the diverse needs of mine site personnel. For dispatchers and shift supervisors, real-time monitoring of truck and shovel productivity, cycling key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational efficiencies become instantly accessible.

Operations management, trainers, crew supervisors, and mining engineers benefit from mid-level visual analysis covering crucial aspects such as shift changes, equipment utilisation, payload performance, and operator/crew monitoring, according to Hexagon. Maintenance dashboards are provided for tracking equipment availability, while summary-level reports facilitate strategic decision-making at the mine management level.

Improvement initiatives

Fleet Analytics 2.0 serves as a solution for mines facing challenges in measuring and implementing operational improvement initiatives. By automating the collation of data from OP Pro, the system not only enhances efficiency but also saves valuable time for technical personnel engaged in manual data compilation, the company adds.

The deployment of Fleet Analytics 2.0 introduces over 40 new dashboards, strategically designed to provide value, and support decision-making processes. These dashboards, crafted using modern visual design processes, are ready to be deployed ‘out of the box’ and require no customisation. Despite this, Fleet Analytics 2.0 allows for extensive customisation of reports to meet specific requirements. All reports source real-time data directly from OP Pro, enabling mine personnel to make on-shift decisions and promptly assess their impact on overall operations.

Organisational efficiency is further bolstered by centralising all reports within Fleet Analytics 2.0, eliminating the need for uncontrolled spreadsheets or disparate data sources. Each report includes a built-in help section, offering detailed insights into its purpose and the metrics used.

The company’s OP Pro is an integrated system that provides high-precision guidance for various equipment types, including dozers, drills, and loading equipment. With features that improve bench elevations, reduce dilution, and decrease rework, OP Pro contributes significantly to site safety, efficiency, and profitability.

The recent revamp of OP Pro introduces a new user interface and experience (UI/UX), allowing mines to leverage peer-to-peer communication, real-time production visibility, and unified reporting.

Hexagon hopes Fleet Analytics 2.0 will represent a ‘transformative leap’   in fleet management solutions, offering mines a comprehensive and user-focused approach to data visualisation. The system’s real-time visibility, intuitive dashboards and extensive customisation options position it as a key enabler for mine operators seeking better operational efficiency, safety enhancement, and improved profitability.
