A new line of PCI riser cage fasteners is enhancing the shock resistance of next-generation server chassis models

Fastener manufacturer Southco has expanded its line of DZUS quick access fasteners with a new product designed specifically for PCI riser cages. In addition to quick access, the fastener assembly provides enhanced shock resistance when connected to next-generation server chassis models.

As Global Product Manager Nick Bennett explains, “The DZUS D9 Tech Line Quick Access PCI Riser Cage Fastener Assembly offers simple operation and is designed to secure PCI graphics, audio and storage cards. The newest addition to Southco’s DZUS Fastener series locks into position quickly and can be easily unfastened to save service time.”

Underbody Service Panels

Southco has a long-standing relationship with the automotive industry as a supplier of innovative fastening products designed to meet the demands of the latest technologies deployed on a wide variety of vehicles.

The company’s DZUS Quick Access fastener series and captive screws are designed for underbody and under hood service panels that require a high strength and easy-to-remove fastening solution. As a result, the DZUS range is engineered to provide accurate, secure engagement and convenient mounting within an array of applications.

Enhanced Shock And Vibration Resistance

The DZUS D9 Tech Line Quick Access PCI Riser Cage Fastener Assembly accommodates size 2U servers, designed to support the new type of connecter currently deployed by leading server manufacturers. Featuring a captive spring-loaded design and tool-free operation, the fastener assembly locks firmly into position to provide shock and vibration resistance. This durable design ensures the safety of PCI cards if the server is moved or dropped.

For installation, the user simply pushes down on the cap while rotating 180 degrees to fasten the server cage to the mating receptacles on the chassis. Meanwhile, the set clamping force provided by the fastener prevents over-tightening.

To ensure compatibility with a variety of PCB thickness ranges, the DZUS D9 Tech Line is available with multiple stud lengths, which make it easy to install, remove and replace server cards. The fastener assembly combines Southco’s quarter-turn and captive fastening technologies to provide consistent and reliable clamping force, as well as quick access.

Essentially, the quick access fastener is engineered to offer engineers a user-friendly solution for telecom, networking and data storage applications, holding PCI graphics, audio and storage cards securely in place. Meanwhile, the cap allows designers to designate access through a range of standard and custom colour options.
