Wireless LAN access points for industrial applications

With its BAT54-F Single and BAT54-F Client, Hirschmann Automation and Control is completing the company's BAT54-F product portfolio. Depending on the application, the new devices offer a cost-effective alternative to the established BAT54-F range. Hirschmann BAT products are said to offer proven ruggedness and are characterised by very steady and broadband wireless LAN communications.

The BAT54-F Single is described as a particularly rugged wireless LAN access point for demanding industrial field applications. Developed for the same hard field use, the BAT54-F Client also features specialised security functions for WLAN operation.

In contrast to the well-know BAT54-F access point, the BAT54-F Single has only one WLAN port, providing properly tailored hardware for users who do not need a second WLAN port and additional 24V voltage supply. The device is certified for applications in the transportation and railway industries. This and its two PoE/LAN ports make the BAT54-F Single a good choice in installations that require high stability and resistance to vibration. The second LAN port can be used, for example, to connect video cameras to the WLAN.

The BAT54-F Client is designed for use on mobile vehicles or machines. Among its outstanding properties, it provides EAP encryption and certifications according to IEEE standard 802.1. With an integrated firewall, fast roaming support and an IP router, the durable and rugged BAT54-F Client is claimed to out-perform competitive products.

With M12 connectors, protection to IP65/67, an extended temperature range and corrosion-resistant aluminium housings, these units are well suited to applications in demanding industrial environments.
