New stainless steel drive products

Paul Boughton

Lenze is introducing new stainless steel motors, geared motors, actuators and couplings.

Typical applications will be found in the food and beverage industry, as well as machinery used outdoors. These products are designed with high-integrity seals and minimal dirt traps to cut maintenance and increase plant availability.

Machinery such as that used in the meat and poultry, beverages, dairy, fruit, vegetable and tobacco industries usually consists of a mix of high-aseptic and low-aseptic modules. In the high-aseptic areas washdown with high-pressure jets is needed. This, in turn, means surfaces are required that will not corrode and do not have dirt traps.

Lenze is offering both standard AC motors and servo motors. The standard AC motors are available from 0.18-7.5kW and can be combined with worm gearboxes in stainless steel and with IP66 protection. The synchronous servo motors can be combined with stainless steel planetary gearboxes for rated output torques up to 450Nm in IP67 enclosures.

Also meeting the washdown requirement is a range of linear actuators for forces up to 4500N and strokes to 750mm. These have 12-42V DC actuation and enclosures sealed to IP68.

Food and beverage machines usually have areas where the requirement is low-aseptic. Here the drive components need to resist moisture but not high-pressure hosing. Lenze offers a wide range of products, for example industrial PCs with touchscreens in IP65 housings, and IP65 inverter drives rated up to 7.5kW. Spring-applied brakes for holding and emergency stop applications rated up to 235Nm are also protected to IP65, as are a range of LED signal towers. Flexible couplings, universal joints and locking bushes can all be supplied in stainless steel.
