Modular pipework heating systems dramatically reduce energy costs

Paul Boughton

The system has been developed by Inditherm, the heating company, using its
patented conductive polymer technology. Because it has fabric-like
properties, it transfers heat more efficiently than traditional process
heating systems, mainly by applying heat directly where it is needed - on
the pipework. Being an electrical system, it is also very easy to control,
thereby providing further energy savings.

The system is modular, with heated pipe sections being manufactured in a
factory setting and shipped to site, where they can be quickly lifted into
place, reducing installation time. The special cladding also provides
higher standards of hygiene, along with improved health and safety benefits.

Independent tests by a number of users have verified energy savings of over
85 per cent over conventional hot water jacketed pipes. This gives energy
costs savings of over 75 per cent.

Inditherm¹s systems are used for heating a wide variety of materials that
require heat to remain liquid at ambient temperatures. These include fats,
oils, chocolate, glucose, liquid sugars, syrups, chemicals and surfactants.
