Embedded PC uses 1GHz processor

Paul Boughton

Beckhoff is introducing a less expensive version of its CX1020 embedded PC with zero second-level cache for applications that do not need the high performance delivered by the company's standard embedded PC that features an Intel Celeron M 1GHz processor with 512kbyte L2 cache.

The new variant enables costs to be saved while retaining compatibility: none of the basic characteristics of the CX1020 are changed, apart from the slightly lower CPU power.

For industrial applications, one of the benefits of this embedded PC is that it does not require a fan or other rotating parts.

Customers can select the main memory: 256MB DDR RAM as standard, but this is expandable to 512MB or 1GB. The basic configuration of the CX1020 includes a 64MB Compact Flash card and two Ethernet RJ 45 interfaces. Either Windows CE or Windows XP Embedded can be installed.

Beckhoff adds that the CX power supply units offer a direct interface between the CX1020 and the Beckhoff Bus Terminals or Ethercat Terminals.
