Servo motor size reduced by one-third

Siemens Automation and Drives is launching a new compact 1FT7 servo motor for high-performance applications in machine tools and production machinery.

The servo motor series is characterised by its high dynamic response and its compact design. With the new servo motor, even the self-cooled version has an overload withstand capability of four times the standstill torque and the speed range is up to 6000 rpm.

In field weakening mode, it can be additionally expanded with Sinamics S120 series inverters. Productivity is therefore increased, as machines can be used over an expanded load range.

Encoder service life is also significantly increased thanks to a newly developed coupling that protects it against shock loads on the motor shaft.

The profile of the new motors also enables simple installation even from the rear, while a rotatable, fast-locking connector simplifies connection and cable-laying in all installation positions. This helps reduce both installation and service times.

Compared to its predecessor series 1FT6, the length of the 1FT7 has been reduced by one-third. However, both models are compatible with regard to installation, connections and characteristic curves, so there is no problem in replacing the predecessor model with the 1FT7.
