Touch computers for harsh environments

Paul Boughton

Axiomtek, as an Applied Computing Platform provider, has designed a series of fanless touchpanel computers named GOT for human-machine interface (HMI) applications.

The new 10.4 and 12.1inch fanless touchpanel computers, the GOT-3108T and GOT-3128T, both support Nema 4X-complaint stainless front bezel and ultra-low-voltage Intel Celeron M 800MHz processors.

Users can install the units in convenient locations such as in the food and beverage industry, chemical plants and transportation applications. The GOT-3128T has a wide operating temperature range of -20 to +50ÂșC for harsh environments; the GOT-3108T is sunlight-readable for use outdoors.

The design of the stainless front bezel enables the GOT-3108T/GOT3128T to qualify for Nema 4X certification for anticorrosion and waterproof functions. Because of its easy-clean feature, the fanless touchpanel computer can be widely applied in the food processing industry, beverage industry and elsewhere.

Both the GOT-3108T and GOT3128T have passed shock and vibration tests at 1.3G (5~500Hz) with the hard disc drive operating. Their slim design makes the computers particularly useful for limited-space environments.

In response to customer requests for wireless applications, the GOT-3108T and GOT3128T have a spare Mini PCI slot and a built-in fixed rotational WLAN antenna (IEEE 802.11b/802.11g ) for wireless network connection. By simply plugging in the Mini PCI WLAN card, customers have instant access to a wireless LAN.

These fanless panel computers are protected from over-voltage and feature a 200-pin DDR DIMM for up to 1 GB of system memory, plus they support various embedded operating systems (EOS) including Windows 98/SE/NT4.0/2000/XP, Windows CE.NET, Windows XPe, and Linux. Other powerful features include fast Ethernet, a watchdog timer, audio, two USB2.0 ports, Mini PCI, VGA, and Compactflash.
