Ceramic filter combats air pollution control

Paul Boughton

Cerafil ceramic filter elements deliver the dual benefits of high particulate removal efficiency and temperature resistance to gas filtration applications.

These benefits have now been enhanced by the addition of a powerful catalyst to the Cerafil system to produce a product called Cerafil TopKat.

The catalyst destroys NOx with an efficiency up to 95percentwith the addition of ammonia or ureaand also destroys VOCsincluding dioxins. The level of activity is exceptional due to the nano sizing and even distribution of the catalyst particles. Effective NOx abatement and particulate removal is achieved in one step eliminating the need for further pieces of equipment. This has clear commercial benefits and the new technology is very competitive when compared with other techniques.

TopKat has been applied on a glass furnace dutyto clinical waste incinerationmeat waste products incineration and fluidised bed metal cleaning. Emission levels were inside European Waste Incineration Directive requirements¢ª. Cerafil TopKat can be applied to existing ceramic or bag filter plants with little or no modification.
