Speed pumps offer variable output

Paul Boughton

The best way of varying the motor speed of a metering pump is with a frequency inverter and the new Bran + Luebbe Novados Speed pump range has been designed to provide this control capability.

Novados Speed pumps are a solution for applications where the purpose of the pump is to deliver a constant output.

Available with either plunger or diaphragm pumpheads, Novados Speed pumps can be used both as a single unit and in multiple combinations. Varying the drive speed extends the output range and has the advantage over traditional methods because it is both flexible and economical.

If the output needs to be varied over a wider range, it is possible to use a combination of variable speed drive and variable stroke. Novados Speed pumps may be used in process applications where their output at maximum speed and stroke can be up to 100 times greater than their minimum values. The versatility of these pumps is reflected in the wide range of industries and applications for which they can be used, including paper, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

Bran + Luebbe Novados Speed pumps can be supplied with the frequency inverters mounted separately from the motor for Ex-zones or integrated with the motor to form a compact unit.

Depending on the size, the majority of standard motors can be used in a frequency range of 5 - 100Hz, so long as the maximum and minimum stroke rates for the pump are not exceeded. According to the pump size, this would normally be between 5 and 240 strokes per minute with the optimum combination of speed and stroke being dependent on the application and the user's requirements.
