Epoxy preforms have robust solvent resistance

Paul Boughton

Uni-form epoxy preforms, manufactured by Multi-Seals, are now available in M5-92, an epoxy systems that offers superior resistance to most industrial solvents and other aggressive chemicals.

When fully cured, this highly cross-linked system will withstand complete submersion in MEK, Xylene, Acetone, Toulene, and other strong solvents for as long as two months without softening or absorbing solvent.

M5-92 also has a high glass transition temperature of 160°C (320°F), which allows the epoxy seals to withstand subsequent high-temperature manufacturing processes such as overmoulding or soldering.

When M5-92 is used early in an assembly process, the highly resistant seal protects components from subsequent manufacturing steps, including soldering operations, solvent baths, and conformal coatings.

After assembly, the seal continues to protect components in a variety of end-use environments.

Like all Uni-forms, M5-92 epoxy preforms are one-part epoxy resins that are solid at room temperature. When heated, Uni-forms melt and cure, forming a consistent seal without the mix and mess associated with liquid epoxy.  Uni-forms are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and materials to accommodate diverse applications, and can be dispensed at rates of 200 to 600 preforms per minute.
