Real-time calculator for OPC and DCS systems

MatrikonOPC, a division of Matrikon Inc, is releasing the MatrikonOPC Calculator Real-time (RT) edition. MatrikonOPC Calculator RT is a powerful calculation engine that performs complex calculations with real-time data.

The application can import real-time values from any OPC DA data source and manipulate that data using its advanced logic engine. Results can be exported as real-time OPC (open process control) outputs before being transferred to an historian.

Designed to be used at all process control levels, MatrikonOPC Calculator boasts an intuitive graphical user interface that allows full configuration of the calculation engine. Logic sequences and user-defined templates can be created and third-party maths libraries imported with ease. The calculation engine is sophisticated enough to handle even the most complex process data calculations in real-time.

MatrikonOPC Calculator Key features: a 'drag-and-drop' logic design interface that requires no programming skills to operate; an advanced maths library; a logic library for building advanced logic; matrix manipulation and support for non-linear functions; powerful visualisation capabilities that allow visual trending of calculations in real-time; OPC standards-based connectivity that allows easy interfacing with other OPC-compliant servers and clients; a facility for calculating and testing results before equations are deployed live; output to OPC, ODBC, PI, and Test Files; and a facility for building reusable calculation templates.

Rather than purchase an expensive PLC that supports calculations, users can scale their systems with an inexpensive I/O module that supports their system's protocol. Couple that with MatrikonOPC Calculator RT, and users can perform all their calculations within the software.

MatrikonOPC Calculator can be used to reduce the calculations performed by an overloaded DCS (distributed control system). Calculations can be transferred into OPC Calculator to be manipulated in real-time and, once manipulated, the data can be reloaded into the DCS. This reduces the load on the DCS, thereby increasing system throughput and ultimately making the process more efficient.
