Mechanical spring return valve

Paul Boughton

Parker Hannifin has extended its range of B Series industrial control valves, which are widely used in a variety of factory and automation applications.

The latest developments include mechanical spring return versions for applications where the security of this return method are preferred, for example in applications which have to 'fail safe' on air failure or require valves to have a known position when air supplies are re-instated after shutdown.

The B Series Range of valves features Parker's Wear Compensating System (WCS), with each valve being fitted with dynamic bi-directional spool seals that are designed for operating on vacuum or pressure of up to 10 bar.

The seals have a specially developed profile so that valve pressure causes them to expand radially to maintain optimum sealing contact with the valve bore; this is carefully controlled so that friction and thus wear are minimised, while response times are increased.

The B Series valve range offers compact dimensions and is designed for ease of fitting and use. For example direct body porting and integral mounting holes are standard, allowing the valves to be easily mounted, either individually or together on compact modular manifolds, which can be extended to accommodate changes in a machine's control system.

Additionally, manifolds can be DIN rail mounted and manifold bases are also available with built in flow controls, providing integrated cylinder speed control. All of the valves in the range are compliant with the requirements for component reliability in accordance with EU Machinery Directive standards EN292-2 and EN983.

In addition, they do not require lubrication, helping to reduce operating and maintenance costs still further.
