The market for indoor air filtration and purification will reach $7.5 billion in 2011. Much of that growth will occur in the Commercial/Institutional segment, accounting for over $1.5 billion by 2011.

New commercial and institutional buildings in Europe and Asia are being built with HVAC systems. Indoor air quality has become of increasing importance, and the air conditioning market has registered significant growth. Particulate air filters are essential to good indoor air quality andto protect the equipment.
The Metals/Transportation air filter market, which includes cabin air filters, will rise to $1.1 billion by 2011. European automotive manufacturers installed cabin air filters in over 90 per cent of new vehicles in 2005; Japan and Korea manufacturers also had high installation rates. In the Americas and China, installation rates are lower but growing. Health awareness and increasing comfort trends will sustain this market. The aftermarket will see an increase as vehicles equipped with the filters are in service longer.
Cleanroom manufacturing is driving the market for high efficiency filters, which will reach to almost $1.3 billion in 2011. The semiconductor cleanroom equipment industry will see double digit growth through 2008. Japan and North America are the most active regions in this industry.
In addition, China's flat-panel TV manufacturing will increase in future years to capture the local market. Currently 80 per cent of flat-panel TVs in the China market are imported from foreign countries. Several companies are expanding their cleanroom production facilities in China, and are trying to attract suppliers to the area. These facilities require both high efficiency particulate filters plus adsorbers to reduce molecular contamination.
High efficiency filters are needed to combat microbial contaminants in food, pharmaceutical, hospital and research facilities. The US will remain the leading purchaser of filters for these applications. Certain areas in the US will benefit from most of the growth.
Critical manufacturing operations will continue to grow in Puerto Rico, in addition to an increase in R&D activity. Pharmaceutical manufacturing will remain strong.
