56k modems are UL-certified

Paul Boughton

The modem 56k UL from Invensys Microelectronics has recently been certified by Underwriters Laboratories. It fulfills the UL product safety requirements, thereby qualifying for use in the US and the Canadian market.

The device is designed for DIN rail mounting. It is suitable for tasks like remote maintenance and monitoring, remote configuration and decentral data acquisition. Its RS232 interface allows the modem to be connected to almost any PLC.

By default, it comes equipped with two interrupt inputs and two switching outputs for relays. The modem can send 10 alarm messages via email, fax or SMS to 10 different recipients. The relays can be remote controlled. Configuration is easy due to the user-friendly windows-based software HSComm.
