Lane Electronics has announced availability of the Cinch-Fibreco JCON Junior Bulkhead Expanded Beam Adapter, a fibre-optic connectivity solution designed to simplify panel-mounted installations while allowing standard commercial patchcords to be used between an expanded beam connector and transceiver.
The adapter addresses a limitation of conventional high-performance expanded beam connector panel adapters, which have typically required custom cable assemblies manufactured to a specific length and fitted with the required connector types. The JCON design instead allows the transceiver to be connected using an off-the-shelf LC/LC patchcord.
This approach gives system designers greater flexibility when equipment configurations change. Cable lengths can be modified by selecting a different standard patchcord, while production variants can be accommodated without redesigning custom cable assemblies. Damaged cabling can also be replaced in the field without requiring fibre termination.
The JCON series incorporates an M83526-compliant fibre-optic interface and a rear adapter plate supporting standard commercial connectors. Its expanded beam ferrule-to-lens alignment uses Cinch-Fibreco’s patented optical technology, designed to maintain signal integrity while reducing maintenance requirements.
The bulkhead connector uses a D-hole panel cut-out and is available with two or four optical channels, supporting both single-mode and multi-mode fibre. Standard configurations feature an anodised aluminium shell and LC-duplex end adapter plate, with zinc cobalt and stainless steel options also available.
The connector is designed for applications including tactical communications, outside broadcast, industrial systems, mining, marine and offshore equipment, where rugged and maintainable fibre connectivity is required.
Key features include plug-and-play compatibility with standard LC, ST, SC and FC patchcords, tool-free installation and easy cleaning. The interface enables plug connectors compliant with MIL-DTL-83526/20 to be mated with two or four optical channels.
Lane Electronics supplies RF and fibre-optic connectors and cable assemblies for defence, security and industrial applications. The company also provides specialist development, assembly and testing services for non-standard connector requirements.
