Kontron has announced its new COM Express basic Computer-on-Module (COM) designed for harsh environment applications that features extended temperature operation with rapid shutdown and ECC functionality.

The new Kontron COMe-bIP6RXT is based on thrird generation Intel Core processors and Intel QM77 express chipset to provide a high performance computing building block that offers expansion I/O options with the advantages of small modular form factor with proven technology for rugged applications.

The new module delivers increased processing and graphics performance and advanced features at the improved performance/power ratio needed for a diverse range of transportation, military, commercial avionics, oil & gas and outdoor communications applications.

Optimised for rugged displays and embedded systems found in harsh environments, the Kontron COMe-bIP6RXT is available in a Type 6 pin-out, and has an integrated Intel GMA HD 4000 iGFX graphics processor that offers a significant performance boost and supports three independent displays.

Along with extended temperature (-40°C to 85°C) operation and rapid shutdown functionality, the module provides Trusted Platform Management and 4x USB 3.0, PCIe Gen 3.0, DirectX 11 interface support. It also supports a wide variety of standard display interfaces - from legacy VGA and LVDS all the way to latest specifications such as HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort and eDP.

The Kontron COMe-bIP6RXT has up to 16 GByte of DDR3 RAM ECC memory, and is compliant with the latest COM Express specification that offers up to seven PCI-Express Gen 2.0 lanes in the pin-out Type 6 configurations.
