Offshore deep-water coring

Paul Boughton

Increasing interest in the potential of subsea resources has driven recent sales, particularly of piston coring systems, says Ocean Scientific International Ltd.

OSIL has developed a comprehensive range of cutting edge innovative sediment sampling equipment for seabed exploration, environmental management, surveying, etc, in all sediment types. Cores of up to 42m are achievable (using the Giant Piston Corer), or exceptional sample preservation using one of the hydraulically damped multiple corers.

All systems are robust, reliable and easy to use. The corers available have a variety of release mechanisms, from a simple over the side drop, to no load releases, to programmable acoustic releases.

Coring systems can be manufactured from a variety of materials, including carbon steel or stainless steel, are supplied with liners or removable core tubes and boxes to aid sample removal, and can be customised to specific client requirements.

The systems are suitable for a variety of applications, including geological studies, marine chemistry, sedimentology, exploration and the study of ocean floor processes.
