New gearboxes for electric valve actuators

Jon Lawson

Electric actuator manufacturer AUMA has launched a new range of part-turn gearboxes that combine compact design with superior quality and reliability.

Engineered and manufactured in Germany, the new GQB gearboxes are designed for basic 90° applications with standard industrial valves such as butterfly and ball valves. The gearboxes expand the application range of AUMA’s proven multi-turn actuators, deployed for valve automation in a wide variety of processes within power plants.

Clever engineering considerably reduces the parts count and materials inventory without compromising performance. Drive components are hardened to increase wear resistance, and the housing is protected by AUMA’s extremely corrosion-resistant two-layer powder coating system. A patent-pending overload protection guarantees safety in case of excessive torque.

“With the GQB we can offer a high-quality gearbox at an attractive price,” Cyrille Decker, product manager at AUMA, says.

GQB gearboxes are available in three sizes covering a torque range of 21,000–84,000Nm, with further sizes to follow.

The part-turn gearboxes can be used either in combination with an AUMA SA multi-turn actuator or with a handwheel for manual operation. A base and lever unit for damper operation is also available.
