Elfab is a global manufacturer of rupture discs, explosion vents and associated detection systems. Its intelligent pressure relief systems protect people, plant processes and the environment across the globe. With some of the most technically advanced devices on the market, Elfab delivers unique design, testing and consultancy services for pressure management.

Based in North Shields, Elfab has over 75 years’ experience working with a range of blue chip organisations across the World. Elfab’s customers are predominantly found in chemical,pharmaceutical, oil and gas and food processing industries. However, its technology is also used in a wide range of OEM applications, from launch systems in space rockets and air bags in cars to cryogenic systems in body scanners.

Elfab has shown significant growth over the last decade and has clear plans for this to continue over the coming years. Led by manufacturing specialists, the company’s strengths lie in its process efficiency improvement and manufacturing excellence to develop superior products that are patent protected.

Understanding the safety critical nature of its customer’s applications Elfab works with each one individually to tailor its products to meet the requirements of unique projects. Using its exceptional in-house process capabilities Elfab manufactures solutions in line with its customers’ increasingly stringent health, safety and environmental requirements.

Elfab’s new product development activity is predominantly driven by industry developments and changes in market demand. For example, its ATEX-approved integral Flo-Tel ™ burst detection system was first developed in response to the ATEX introduction in Europe. This is now the only non-invasive, fail-safe detection system on the market,positioning Elfab as thought-leaders in its field.

Another of Elfab’s industry-leading products is the Opti-Gard™, comprising a reverse-acting rupture disc, a single design holder suitable for a wide range of flange specifications and its integral burst detector, Flo-Tel ™. For years, the industry standard was a 5% tolerance disc, tested to only 50-100,000 cycles. Indirect response to customer requirements, Elfab committed R&D resource to improving its product offering. Opti-Gard™ is now the only reverse-acting disc on the market to benefit from a 3% tolerance and an improved 97% operating ratio, tested to one million cycles – a service life over four times longer than previously achieved within the industry.

The company prides itself on taking “green” approaches and is always looking for innovative and cost-effective ways to reduce its impact on the environment. The company has been awarded with the Environmental Management System ISO 14001, a highly recognised standard that helps companies identify, prioritise and manage the environmental risks as part of the normal business practices.

All Elfab manufacturing facilities and Head Office functions are located within its North Tyneside site. However, it does have several sales offices around the World, including Singapore, China, Poland and Italy and a growing network of distribution partners.
