POWER-GEN Europe 2012: Integrating the power sector

Paul Boughton

POWER-GEN Europe, the leading event for the international power industry, has announced that ‘Integrating the power sector’ will be the overriding theme of the 2012 exhibition and
conference, taking place from 12-14 June at the KölnMesse, Cologne.

Dr Michael Suess, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy Sector and Member of the Managing Board Siemens AG, has also been confirmed as a speaker for the opening keynote session. The event will once again be co-located with Renewable Energy World Europe.

Europe’s future electricity supply is facing a major integration challenge – a convergence between existing conventional power and the fast-growing renewable generation sector.

Flexible solutions are increasingly being brought to the market, raising the question of how to service this evolving energy sector.

POWER-GEN Europe will bring together leading figures in the industry to address this compelling issue.

“We are delighted to be holding the 2012 conference in Germany. Nowhere is the conferences’ key theme of ‘integrating the power sector’ more compelling than here, following Germany’s decision to phase out all nuclear power by 2022”, said Nigel Blackaby, conference director at POWER-GEN Europe 2012.

“The 2011 exhibition attracted 15,000 attendees and the conference featured 70 sessions, with 250 speakers presenting over the three days; we can’t wait to build on this success in Cologne.”

Now in its 20th year, POWER-GEN Europe is the foremost event for the European power industry, providing an unequalled programme of strategic, technical, keynote and plenary sessions, along with over 600 exhibitors showcasing their products and services.

A full conference programme will nclude sessions on flexible generation, electricity storage, smart grids and infrastructure management.
