Anti-rotation solution solves the problem of spinouts

Ives Dekeyser outlines the latest developments for a mechanical fastener, specifically an anti-rotation solution for a demanding application.

The Tubtara blind rivet nut, a mechanical fastener especially developed to ensure a strong thread in a thin sheet or profile, has been manufactured by Dejond since 1954. You can use it to clinch separate sheets together and it also allows you to assemble another component with a bolt or screw. The Tubtara is used in all kinds of sheet metal applications. It avoids tapping, welding or working with a bolt and nut. Installed from only one side, it is a very good solution for enclosed applications, such as metal cabinets, profiles or enclosures, etc.

For some time Dejond has felt there was a clear market requirement for a stainless steel 316 Tubtara effective in environments where enhanced corrosion resistance was essential. It was a technical challenge to forge stainless steel 316 on heading machines. Dejond initially only targeted applications exposed to chlorides and salt water as in marine, chemicals or food industry. In the mean time it also supplies the general industry with a wide choice of styles. The stainless 316 Tubtara has proven its effectiveness in all circumstances, indoor as well as outdoor, where corrosion or elevated temperatures are critical and a long-term, non-magnetic solution is required. It serves customers in transport (salt) and paper and pulp (higher temperatures) industry. It is used in industrial kitchens, bathrooms, hot water systems and indoor pools, in coastal climates and polluted or industrial environments. Some use a closed end version to prevent the inflow of dirt, oil or certain liquids.

The latest innovation in its portfolio is the ANTI-TURN Tubtara. Dejond designed an anti-rotation solution for a very demanding application of a customer who could only make round holes in very hard parent material. The Anti-turn Tubtara with cylindrical shank and special anti-rotation head, solves spin out problems in applications where hexagonal holes are too difficult or not allowed. It features one or more noses under the head, locking the nut firmly into the pre-drilled holes in the metal sheet or profile. This innovative design offers at least twice as high torque-to-turn values, compared to the equivalent round nut. Important advantages include high effectiveness on slippery surfaces or in very hard material and the use of standard round holes, eliminating the risk of cracks on the corners of hexagonal holes. It is very easy to install with standard setting tools or set automatically.l
