Thermostats for industrial processes are sealed to IP65

Paul Boughton
Spelsberg is introducing a range of IP65-protected 'ready to run' thermostats that are suitable for trace heating and general temperature maintenance in industrial processing applications. The HT range of thermostats are robust, mechanical units ready-installed in one of Spelsberg's IP65-protected TK enclosures. Because the units are ready-assembled, ingress protection and protection from severe temperatures are assured. The range avoids the need to specify separate parts, as well as the cost and time associated with installation.

When specifying thermostats for industrial processing it is important that protection from the surrounding environment is considered as well as the accuracy of the thermostat. Specifying a separate enclosure that will fit the application, correctly house the thermostat and offer the correct degrees of thermal and ingress protection can be time-consuming and costly. Installing the thermostats correctly to ensure all protection is maintained is also a precision job that, if done incorrectly, could result in catastrophic failures.

The HT series units from Spelsberg use precise and robust, mechanically-adjustable, liquid-filled thermostats with operating temperature controls ranging from 0-40 degrees C, 30-120 degrees C and 50-320 degrees C. They are housed in one of Spelsberg's TK range of enclosures; a clamping cable gland is used to guarantee the seal through which the probe enters the enclosure.

Chris Lloyd, sales and marketing manager for Spelsberg UK, comments: "Thermostats for industrial processing need to be well protected to guarantee reliable operation. It can be difficult to specify an enclosure that meets all the requirements and does not necessitate lengthy installation times. The HT series of thermostats delivers a complete package that performs accurately; the lower temperature range is ideal for frost protection for water systems while the higher ranges have been designed to suit most industrial process applications."
