Industrial power supply features fieldbus connection

Paul Boughton

B&R is launching a new power supply for use with small drives. It can be used internationally because of its large supply voltage range of 380-500V AC (three-phase), and it provides extensive possibilities for parameter settings and error diagnostics. Status information can be read at any time via a fieldbus connection, which allows, for example, evaluation of the load, output voltage changes or brake chopper threshold. Operation close to the power limits can therefore be easily detected by the central control system, so machine functionality can be ensured at all times.

The output voltage range covers 36-80V DC. An additional 24V DC output can supply other automation components with current requirements up to 2A. The power supply module is designed for continuous power output of 1kW.

A major feature of the power supply module is a bus interface that enables the output voltage to be configured easily via a fieldbus. A chopper output offers the possibility to connect a braking resistor for applications where large amounts of power are fed back to the power supply.

With the large selection of B&R X20 and X67 bus controllers, it is also possible to connect the power supply via standard fieldbus systems such as Profibus DP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Can (with protocol-derived Canopen), Devicenet and Powerlink. In this way, users profit from simple integration in various applications.
