Filter and separator of oil vapours and oil mists

Paul Boughton
UT99 AG's UPF 101-1000 series has been developed specially for the venting of oil tanks, large plain bearings and gearbox cases. By the precipitation degree of 99.97 per cent by 0.3µm and the low residual quantity of <5mg/m3 downstream the filter the legal limit values are strictly observed. It has a service life of 8000-24000 hours.

The UPF 101-1000 is suitable for venting the central lubrication oil tanks of gas and steam turbines. The series has been developed specially for the venting of oil tanks, large plain bearings and gearbox cases. The field of use comprises oil tank volumes of 1,500l up to 65,000l.

In gas and steam turbines there are central lubrication oil systems to supply the turbine bearings. The pressure built up in the oil tank prevents the oil mist from penetrating the pipes, bearings, labyrinth glands and case slots.

Due to the permanent flowing-off of the oil mist the filter cartridges of stage one are self-cleaning, hence they need no maintenance and therefore they have a long service life of several years. The service life of the filter cartridges of stage two is 8000 - 16,000 hours. With a precipitation degree of 99.97 per cent by 0.3µm and a low residual quantity of less than 5mg/m3 downstream of the filter the legal limit values are strictly observed.

The UPF 20-305 series has been developed specially for the closed-loop venting of crankcases (CHP 0.15-9MW). The multistage oil filter has a high oil separation degree (99.97 per cent by 0.3µm). The UPF filters are designed so they can be operated by the turbo-supercharger of the engine.

A membrane gas controller on the unit holds the crankcase exactly at -1mbar under-pressure, even with variable operating conditions. For safe functioning of the control and in order to avoid an unacceptable pressure rise in the crankcase, our filter has a very low pressure loss of 3mbar - 5mbar.

UT99 guarantees a very low residual oil quantity of <1.0mg/m3 downstream the filter. The service life is 4000-16000 hours.

The UPF 65-355 series has been developed specially for the open-loop venting of crankcases (CHP 0.15-9MW). UT99 guarantees residual oil quantity of <5mg/m3 downstream the filter (separation degree 99.97 per cent by 0.3µm).

In internal combustion engines, combustion gases always enter between the piston rings and the sleeve in the crankcase (blow-by). Without venting, these combustion gases will cause an unacceptable pressure increase in the crankcase. These gases must not be blown off into the environment.

The UPF filters are operated by an additional fan. The electronic PID control with pressure transmitter and frequency converter placed on the unit holds the crankcase exactly at -1.0mbar under pressure. The service life 8000-24000 hours.
