Machine controller with PLC and touchscreen

Paul Boughton

A combined HMI and PLC system, capable of completely self-contained machine control for small to medium-sized automation applications, is now available from Gefran.

The new GF_VEDO 35 and 57 series includes a choice of 3.5 or 5.7inch colour or mono touchscreen HMIs with an IEC 61131-3 PLC plus I/O and fieldbus expansion to offer the convenience of a single package with the potential for significant time, cost, wiring and space savings.

The 320 x 240 QVGA touchscreen displays offer full graphics capability via Java-based Visual designer software that is integrated with the IEC 61131-3 PLC under the single programming environment Gefran Automation Builder (GAB).

PLC expansion is via the built-in Gilogik Bus with a wide selection of analogue and digital I/O modules, temperature and counter modules available from the extensive Gefran Gilogik PLC range.

An Ethernet 10/100 port is provided as standard for data communication and programming via Modbus TCP, and USB 2.0 or RS485 are optionally available along with Canopen or Devicenet networking.

The 200MHz ARM9 processor-based system includes 64MB of user memory and 64 MB (Flash) system memory for program and parameter storage; SSD/HD memory card support is available up to 1GB.

Gefran believes the GF_VEDO 35 and 57 series will appeal to system integrators and manufacturers of small to medium-sized automation systems across all areas of processing, packaging, metalworking, woodworking and plastics.
