Ultrasonic flow measurement at high temperatures

The flow measurement of thermo oils, fuels, feed water, condensate, molten salt, bitumen, quench oil and many other media with very high temperatures places increased demands on the measuring instruments.

Restricted temperature range of the materials, accelerated ageing processes and thermal stress are some of the encountered problems.

Flexim's WaveInjector was engineered to extend the temperature range of the FLUXUS ADM clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter. This new patented solution allows for a non intrusive flow measurement at temperatures as high as 400°C, even in explosive atmosphere (ATEX certified).

When fixed on the pipe with the WaveInjector, the ultrasonic flow transducers send the sound signals into the hot pipe wall via optimised metallic coupling plates. Because of the temperature decrease caused by the coupling plates, no special high temperature transducers are needed. The acoustic contact between the coupling plates and the hot pipe wall is ensured by a metal foil specially adapted to the temperature of
the pipe.

The WaveInjector realises a ong-time temperature stable clamp-on ultrasonic flow measurement at high temperatures with a good acoustic efficiency. It offers all the well known advantages of the clamp-on ultrasonic technology: a non-invasive measurement with a high dynamic range and a high flexibility.
