Intrinsically safe pressure sensor has multiple approvals

Paul Boughton
Futek Advanced Sensor Technology is launching the intrinsically safe PMP500 pressure sensor. Approvals include FM, ATEX, CE conformity and CSA to support international shipments of OEM equipment designed with these new transmitters. These four approvals also provide global recognition and acceptance of the intrinsically safe ratings.

Ruggedly constructed from stainless steel, the PMP500 features an all-welded measuring cell for improved media compatibility. There are also no internal soft sealing materials that may react with the media or deteriorate over time. The compact design, which is available with environmental protection rating up to NEMA 6P and IP68, also makes the sensor suitable for industrial applications including chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas refining, food industry, and mechanical engineering functions.

Each PMP500 undergoes extensive quality control testing and calibration to achieve an accuracy of 0.25 per cent full scale. The printed circuit boards use surface-mount technology and are potted in silicone gel for protection against mechanical shock, vibration and moisture. The PMP500 is individually temperature-compensated to assure accuracy and long-term stability even when exposed to severe temperature variations. A half-inch NPT female conduit connection is standard and a cable compression electrical connection is available as an option.
