Locomotive division takes over tank production plant
Vossloh Schienenfahrzeugtechnik GmbH (VSFT), owner of the locomotive division of the former company Krupp MaK, has moved with its assembly shop for diesel locomotives - as well as with the commissioning shop and the design department - into the former production shop of Leopard battle tanks with its design offices under the same roof.
In the old production shop, the assembly and the handling of big orders was becoming an insoluble management challenge and also non-motivating for the fitters.
The floor space in the new premises is now four times larger .
Heavy assembly cranes already existed but a number of additional equipment had to be installed, such as additional tracks pits, moveable chimneys and a heavy locomotive traverser. The existing milling and drilling machines for the treatment tank bodies is now used for the final treatment of the welded high performance bogies.
The increasing production share of bigger locomotives with engine performances of 1700kW and 2240kW can now accommodated without constant moving of smaller locomotives or components.
The assembly of the world's most powerful diesel locomotive, with hydraulic power transmission and a current engine performance of 2240kW, the G 2000BB, can now be handled much easier than before.
The movement in the new production shop means a doubling of the annual production capacity from about 80 to 160 locomotives, or even more depending on the mixture of the locomotive types, means a further step in the direction to a modern compact factory.
