Control upgrade for light railway extension

Transmitton, the supplier of integrated system control and asset management solutions to the rail industry, has begun work to upgrade and extend operational control facilities for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to support the extension to London City Airport.

The project is due to be completed by late 2005.
AMEC Group Ltd has contracted Transmitton to upgrade its own successful Cromos2000 system at Poplar Control Room in order to accommodate a further four new DLR stations and two new electrical substations.
The existing system, installed in 1999, provides control and monitoring for the power distribution and building services of the railway, bringing together PABX, CCTV, Help Points, PA and other important infrastructure systems.
In addition, Transmitton will install six fastflex RTUs across four new sites, to provide control of the additional power distribution and building services required for the railway extension.
A new singleheaded Cromos2000 workstation will be installed at London City Airport for maintenance purposes.
The project requires careful planning for the commissioning of the additional works to minimise disruption to the operation of the existing Railway.
Real-time system solutions available through Transmitton offer rationalisation and consolidation of the plant and infrastructure, using a method to convert raw data into meaningful information for timely operator action.
Transmitton is one of the UK's largest control systems suppliers, the company's portfolio also includes the design and manufacture of application-specific systems tools. m
