China builds towards home-grown design
What will be the next Chinese technology company to explode onto the worldwide stage? China is vying to become a global player in high-end technologies such as 3G wireless communication. Because of this, the nation's government is investing billions of dollars to help local companies develop such technologies in order to compete with multinational corporations on the global stage. The government hopes to convert the country into a worldwide design center as well as a global manufacturing nexus during the coming five years. "By branching out beyond its borders, China intends to become a global technological force," said Kevin Wang, senior manager of China Services at iSuppli Corp. "Not only will this help generate future revenue, but it also will allow China to change its image from simply being a place where cheap goods and labor can be found." China's world-design-centre concept is being propelled by the improvement in domestic companies' R&D capabilities. Companies such as Huawei, Lenovo and ZTE already compete with established market leaders all around the world. Which other companies are ready to compete on the global stage-and how else is China striving to become a world player in electronics? <a href="http://www.isuppli.com"target=_blank>iSuppli Corp</a> |
