Bar code reader integrates via fieldbus
Leuze Electronic's new BCL 500i bar code reader series is not only flexible in application due to its outstanding versatility, but also offers integrated fieldbus connectivity for fast and simple implementation. The innovative Webconfig software also permits convenient device commissioning. The wide range of different bar code reader variants offered by Leuze electronic is claimed to guarantee maximum flexibility for a wide range of applications. Users can choose between three lens variants for different modular widths from 0.25mm through to 1.0mm. The readers are available with identical scanning fields as line scanners and also in the form of the latest-generation swivel mirror or deflecting mirror versions. The high-performance lens of the BCL 500i features a symmetrical +/-30-degree optical angle of aperture and provides scope for an extensive scanning field aperture with a long depth of field even at close range. With Profibus or Ethernet TCP/IP interfaces built into in the device, as well as integrated Webconfig parameterisation software, fast implementation and extreme handling convenience are assured when commissioning in existing networks. As before, the new devices offer two serial interfaces for RS 232 or RS 422 and RS 485. In addition, Leuze's own internally developed Multinet is also available to facilitate networking. Integrated fieldbus connectivity radically simplifies wiring for the user and almost always results in a higher data rate, as it eliminates the bottleneck caused by additional gateways. Commissioning has been simplified for the user by means of the Webconfig parameterisation software. This permits devices to be fully parameterised in any optional web browser directly via the control system, with addressing via a USB port. The software features a convenient, future-proof program structure and menu prompting. The port is also configured to allow the use of a USB memory stick as an external storage facility. Functions such as firmware update, documentation, monitoring and parameter record management are also possible. Another factor that adds to the handling and installation convenience of the new series is a carefully designed mounting concept. Depending on requirements, proven dovetail technology and M4 screws permit simple, convenient fixture. Ultralock featuring M12 connection technology ensures fast, reliable electrical coupling even in cramped mounting conditions. Adjustment and parameterisation are facilitated by a clearly arranged and transparent depiction of scanned values on a multi-language display. The menu prompting system is user-friendly, using just four buttons. Two additional LEDs provide a quick overview of the device status. In operation, optimum legibility is assured by superior performance. Innovative code reconstruction technology (CRT) guarantees this same degree of legibility even for high-speed processes. Its benefits are brought to bear particularly with twisted labels, small label heights or for codes that have to be read at extreme skewed positions relative to the central axis. Even partially damaged or soiled codes can be successfully decoded. In terms of their equipment and technology, the new BCL 500i series bar code readers provide performance features that allow users to address application-specific requirements while saving valuable time and ensuring a high level of system availability even under the most difficult conditions and with high processing speeds. |
