New IR thermometry tools photograph temperature
The latest generation of IR thermometers from companies such as Raytek, a provider of non-contact measurement solutions, includes advanced features to support condition monitoring, preventive maintenance and quality inspection. These include data logging - the ability to capture and store temperature data for multiple locations along an inspection route, and easy temperature trend analysis using Windows-based companion software on a PC. To enhance maintenance documentation and inspection accountability, Raytek is the first to combine a precision infrared thermometer (Range -50° to 900°C), with a digital camera in one lightweight inspection tool, called the Raytek PhotoTemp MX6 (Fig. 2). The first IR thermometer of its kind, the PhotoTemp accurately marks the measurement spot using a unique circular laser sighting technique, and captures this in a photograph, along with temperature, location, date/time and other critical information. An adjustable focus setting and built-in flash ensure image quality, even in low light conditions. Up to 100 images can be taken along an inspection route and stored in the unit, then downloaded later to a PC for trend analysis or incorporation into emails and reports. l |
