Surface filtration

The process industry depends very much on reliable and economic filtration and separation technologies.

The filter media is the key element for success in vacuum belt filters, vacuum and pressure rotary disc filters, leaf filters, filter presses, centrifuges and others. Surface filters and depth filters are common. Sefar has specialised in surface filters with longer lifetimes and better economic efficiency than depth filters, Sefar has the longest experience and the largest product range in surface filters. The properties of the filter media are carefully engineered for eg vacuum belt filters. Filter presses for the dewatering of pigments, pharmaceutical products as well as mineral ores.

Especially for the pharmaceutical industry extremely fine fabrics for different types of centrifuges were developed. These fabrics are food and drugs compatible according to European and Sefar rules.

Sefar Inc has a filtration laboratory to help customers, as a part of a special service package, to choose, test and compare different filter media. Filtration and separation is part of the process, especially in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. In order to keep the pace with this industry, Sefar Inc. maintains a substantial development programme. For example, fabrics made of polyetherketone (PEEK) can be used at temperatures of up to 160°C under full mechanical load and stress. New, till now unthinkable processes, are now emerging such as the filtration of specialised products on vacuum belt filters at high temperatures in combination of dewatering and drying of tixotropic products.

Sefar Ltd will exhibit at the Achema 2003 the following new products:

  • TETEX DLW IS. A new filter cloth for filter presses with integrated support and seal, offering better filtration properties and improved lifetime.
  • TETEX MICRO. A new composite fabric range with pore sizes below 2 micrometers. This new fabric range has a patented structure in order to combine the membrane filtration capabilities with the strengths and robustness of ordinary filter fabrics.

A new elastic monofilament cover for rotary disc filters (patent applied) as well as new solutions for the pharmaceutical industry and the gypsum dewatering in power stations.
