Long-life sealing for hydropower turbines

Two new fluid seals, from James Walker, will cut maintenance and improve the reliability and profitability of water turbines in hydropower plant.

Both have been thoroughly tested and proven over ten years on operational turbines.

HydroSele is a split-type cartridge seal for Francis and Kaplan shafts. Simple to install and adjustment free, this high-integrity system comes with an extended three-year guarantee, subject to agreed operational parameters.

After three years’ operation, economical on-site refurbishment will return the unit to good-as-new condition in just a few hours, minimising plant downtime and maintenance costs.

Solosele KB Hydro is the long-term sealing solution for Kaplan blade roots. A back-to-back arrangement out performs multi-lip seals to keep lubricant in the system and prevent the ingress of water and particles. It proves particularly effective on worn equipment where the blade root rotates out-of-true or runs on worn bearings.
