Composite residential water meter

The UK's first composite residential water meter is being launched by Sensus Metering Systems.

The body of the Sensus 620-C is manufactured using a metal-free composite material.

The meter is the result of four years research and development at Sensus with specialist polymer manufacturer Barlog and stems from growing industry concern over the continued use of metals in meters.

Questions are being raised in a number of European markets about the detrimental effects on health caused by the content of lead in potable water. The use of composites is seen as one way of minimising risk.

Two new Sensus products are now being manufactured using the composite material - the ResidiaJet C apartment meter, which is used extensively in other European countries, and the 620-C residential water meter, which is suited to the UK market.
