Television set shipments total 44.7million units

Amid rapid technological change, the worldwide television market grew at a healthy rate in the fourth quarter of 2003, with TV set shipments totalling 44.7 million units, up 12 per cent from the third quarter, according to iSuppli/Stanford Resources.

Shipments of TVs based on all technologies, including traditional CRT sets, grew during the fourth quarter.
LCD-TV shipments grew 23 per cent on a sequential basis to reach 1.3 million units in the fourth quarter. Plasma TV shipments rose 5 per cent sequentially to hit 358 449 units.
Despite the rise of new technologies and the strong fourth quarter, TV shipments for the full-year of 2003 remained flat from 2002 at 160 million units. Shipments will grow to 173 million units in 2004.
By 2008, the overall TV market will reach
203.6 million units, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4 per cent between 2004 and 2008.
