Flexibility and scalability requirements for fluid dispensing equipment
Fluid dispensing and coating provide combinations of electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties to components and assemblies for increased functionality or enhanced reliability. Products and designs now change so frequently it is necessary for dispensing equipment to accommodate much smaller parts, higher temperatures, and give better accuracy with faster throughput. The dispensing equipment should also offer different options for fluid handling as well as specific temperature control at various places in the process, plus easy-to-use software to tie all the system features together. Unfortunately, fluids have different dispensing characteristics and there is no single piece of equipment that can address them all. The equipment flexiblility depends on features, options, upgradeability, and the ablity to scale and transfer processes. Equipment vendor flexibility depends on their process knowledge, the ability to combine technologies and/or reconfigure equipment, a global support infrastructure, and the commitment to continous product innovation. If all of those come together, the cost of ownership of the dispensing equipment will be minimal compared to the initial investment cost. Hence, companies are no longer looking at dispensing equipment as just a capital expense, but they look at the total picture of the cost of ownership of the dispensing process for their production.
