Generator filters nitrogen from air to inflate car tyres for better inflation

Parker Balston has launched Tyresaver, a compact, self-contained nitrogen generator for independent tyre centres and garages to inflate tyres.

Tyresaver uses hollow fibre membrane technology to generate a supply of nitrogen with the purity required to keep tyres at a constant pressure.
The hollow fibre technology effectively filters ordinary air to separate the nitrogen from an oxygen-enriched air stream. Although the compressed air supply in workshops typically contains moisture, the Tyresaver system is able to deliver dry air at a rate sufficient to fill 25 to 30 tyres per hour.
There are several acknowledged benefits to be obtained from inflating car tyres with nitrogen rather than compressed air. Because the gas is dry, the tendency for wheel rims to corrode and create leak paths is eliminated; in addition, the nitrogen molecules do not leach through the rubber tyre. Thanks to these two factors, tyres stay inflated at the correct pressure for longer, which leads to improved comfort, safer vehicle handling, a typical reduction in fuel consumption of 4percent, and an increase in tyre life of up to 30percent.
