To meet the ever growing demands for even higher efficiency, faster speeds and greater flexibility, Weiss is launching a new, freely programmable pick-and-place unit known as the HP140.

This is claimed to open up new opportunities for manufacturing companies that are striving to improve the performance of their existing equipment.

The compact design of the HP140 allows for easy integration into existing systems and, once in place, the unit enables the performance benefits to be realised quickly.

Driven by highly dynamic linear motors, the HP140 is extremely fast even when operating under load; and with acceleration of 40m/s2 and speeds of up to 4m/s, fast cycle times are easily achieved.

A typical cycle time for a 1kg payload pick-and-place operation with vertical stroke of 40mm and a horizontal stroke of 120mm is an impressive 0.74s. This cycle time includes the gripper delay and handshake signal times.

The technical specifications of the HP140 include: a vertical stroke of 0-65mm; a horizontal stroke of 0-268mm; positional accuracy of 0.02mm; repeatability of <0.01mm; a maximum load of 3.0kg (gripper and workpiece); and a weight of 13 kg.

The HP140 pick and place unit is also an excellent choice for machine builders who wish to optimise their machine design and at the same time provide their customer with a fast and flexible system.

For the machine builder, the integration of the HP140 is made simple, as all cables required are supplied by Weiss, together with Weiss Application Software that provides a quick and intuitive method of setting up and programming the unit.

Up to 128 positions can be stored in a total of 32 drive sequences, providing both the machine builder and the end user with a highly adaptable and flexible system that has the additional benefit of low energy consumption.

With a minimum of moving parts, built-in overload protection and no seals or shock absorbers to wear out, the HP140 is robust and reliable for high speed assembly applications. Weiss also offers an automatic greasing function for the HP140 to make the unit maintenance-free over its long lifespan.
