Remote USB connectivity with the new USB

Paul Boughton

Amplicon has introduced three new feature-packed models to its range of Digi AnywhereUSB devices. The AnywhereUSB is a network-attached USB hub that allows USB devices to connect to a PC by using existing TCP/IP network infrastructure.

The AnywhereUSB units connect USB devices anywhere on a wired or wireless Local Area Network, eliminating the need for local host PCs.  This is ideal in manufacturing lines or any hostile or non-secure environment where having a local PC is neither practical nor permitted.

The AnywhereUSB range provide units with either two, five and 14 USB ports all delivering the same Plug and Play user experience as a local USB port.

Software drivers are loaded onto a PC or server, enabling remote devices to communicate with the host without modifying existing application software. Peripheral devices can be centrally managed and monitored from a remote server or PC via an IP address.

The AnywhereUSB range is compatible with bulk or interrupt type USB devices, for example: bar-code scanners, printers, fingerprint scanners, mice, pole displays, card readers, flash drives and security keys. It is an excellent solution for networked USB or serial devices in VMware and Microsoft virtualized environments. Watchport/V3 USB camera, Watchport sensors and Edgeport USB-to-serial converters are also fully compatible with AnywhereUSB.
