Marine-certified HMIs

Paul Boughton

A range of marine-certified human machine interfaces (HMIs) is now available in the UK and France from M.A.C. Solutions. All HMIs are tested according to I.A.C.S. E10 (International Association of Classification Societies) and EN 60945 for bridge use, and are approved by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Germanischer Lloyd (GL).

Designed and manufactured in Germany, the Sonove family of marine hardware and software automation solutions includes embedded panel PCs and monitors, with configuration software to control, visualise and manage data on commercial, leisure and military craft with space-saving efficiency. HMIs start from 15in displays up to 23in Widescreen versions.

Andy Thorogood, Product Manager HMIs at M.A.C. Solutions, comments: “Marine, offshore oil & gas and other maritime environments require a unique level of demanding performance, functionality and certification. The Sonove family of marine-certified HMIs satisfies the requirements on all counts, whether it is high temperature, vibration resistance or certification.”

The Sonove range includes the Maritime Panel PC iCore (MPPC) family. Certified by DNV and GL, these satisfy the needs of both the latest and future generation of software for ships and other marine vessels.

The MPPC series is available with anti-reflex glass or with resistive touchscreen suitable for marine applications. The units can be easily configured for most applications. A choice of the latest operating systems (Intel Core i7 or Celeron), DC or AC power supply, flash memory, speakers, alarm buzzer and a variety of I/O interface options provide users with features to satisfy the most demanding marine environments.

The Maritime Monitor (MM) family from Sonove is certified by DNV and GL. The MM series is available with anti-reflex glass or resistive touchscreen in a wide choice of display sizes suitable for marine applications. Multi-video input, DC or AC power supply and front side data inputs enable complete flexibility. The high brightness displays with LED backlights are dimmable down to zero for bridge use.

Designed for harsh marine environments in cabinets, engine rooms or bridges, the Marine PC (MPC) box from Sonove is fanless and has no moving parts. Two different architectures are available (Core-I and ATOM) satisfying both performance and environmental requirements. Other options include I/O extensions such as RS485 or CANbus, as well as software drivers.
