Samsung Electronics has announced that its test lab for LED component products for use in LED lighting applications has been recognised by VDE Institute, the testing and certification branch of VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies, one of the largest technical and scientific associations in Europe.

Samsung and VDE signed an agreement in acknowledgement of the recognition. VDE is accredited on an international level for the area of testing and certification of electro-technical equipment, components and systems in terms of safety, electromagnetic compatibility and other characteristics.

As a result of the recognition, the Samsung test lab’s equipment, engineers and quality tests for LED components were verified by VDE, and VDE can award certifications to Samsung’s LED components based on the tests performed by Samsung.

“We expect that faster and more efficient certification of our LED component products will be enabled through the agreement, which will expedite our process in efforts to meet EU requirements for LED products,” said SungKwan Lim, vice president of quality team, LED Business, Samsung Electronics. “The agreement sets the stage for us to carry out our LED component business more aggressively in Europe and further global markets.”

The recognition of Samsung’s test lab came from VDE’s Test Data Acceptance Program (TDAP) after rigorous assessment of the lab. Thus, VDE’s recognition continuously accompanies Samsung in its quality assurance process for LED components.

By utilising its own test lab, Samsung leverages the potential of its qualified staff and testing equipments, and allows for certification with VDE Marks in time.
