IP55 variant added to frequency inverters

Mitsubishi Electric has added dust and splash-proof versions with an IP55 protection rating to its FR-A800 series of modern frequency inverters. Specially designed for harsh environments and tailored to the requirements of pumps and fans, the drives are highly robust and suited for use in industrial and commercial building automation systems as well as in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

The new FR-A846 series with an IP55 protection rating represents Mitsubishi Electric’s latest drive technology in the output range from 400 watts up to 160 kW. The drive’s EMC filter, built in as standard, ensures full compliance with the EMC Directive (EN 61800-3, 1st environment, category C2) while its DC reactor – also built in as standard – ensures full compliance with IEC 61000-3-12 for reducing and limiting harmonic currents so that separate certification is not required. The FR-A846 also has a built-in main switch version with locking option.

The IP55 series is suitable for the operation of both standard asynchronous machines and IPM/SPM motor technology. USB host and USB device functions guarantee easy programming and parameterisation along with data logging functionality while integration in Mitsubishi Electric’s iQ Works programming environment is also offered. A built-in control panel along with graphical displays mean that components are intuitive to operate.

Maximum speed and torque quality up to a maximum frequency of 400 Hz can be achieved using the Real Sensorless Vector Control facility. An overload capability of 250 percent during the start-up phase will ensure reliable start-up behaviour, especially under difficult operating conditions. Minimum terminal cycle times of less than three milliseconds guarantee the fastest possible response while speed rise times of less than 80 milliseconds help to ensure maximum performance and improved productivity.

Two overload scenarios guarantee optimised system planning while three additional slots expand the range of possible applications. Functional safety up to PLe/SIL3 guarantees operation in situations ranging from simple emergency stops to complex press actuations. The new series of inverters offers a total of eleven network options including CC-Link, SSCNET, Profibus-DP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, LONworks and Modbus RTU, enabling them to be used all over the world.
