Bettina Schadow reports on innovative tubing solutions for India’s oil and gas sector

At India’s recent major oil and gas exhibition Petrotech in New Delhi, Fine Tubes and Superior Tube presented their precision tubing solutions. The companies have been manufacturing high performance tubing for India’s oil and gas companies for nearly five years and continue to see great potential in India for further growth.

Rahul Gujar, who works for the firms in the Indian marketplace says: “Rapid economic growth in India requires greater oil and gas output. This in turn is pushes the demand for more oil and gas production. There is a 9.1% year-on-year growth in the oil and gas sector in India, which is substantial. So, the market is positive and has great potential.”

India’s gas demand is predominantly due to the expanding domestic use of LNG as a clean fuel for cooking, industrial applications and green fuel for the growing automobile business. India is the fourth largest importer of LNG and so there is a considerable opportunity to produce it in India.

Fine Tubes and Superior Tube develop high quality, advanced alloy tubing solutions for the most demanding oil and gas applications. As far as examples for success in India are concerned, Fine Tubes recently received approval from India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) to supply instrumentation tubing for offshore applications and was also awarded the project to supply downhole control lines. US-based sister company, Superior Tube, was awarded a major contract from TEMA India to supply heat exchanger tubing for a new floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

At the recent Petrotech exhibition, the two companies presented their chemical injection lines and control line tubes together with a selection of corrosion-resistant coil and instrumentation tubing for critical offshore applications. The exhibition was an excellent opportunity for both businesses to showcase their various approvals and extensive range of specialty stainless steel tubing. This included NORSOK-approved 6 Moly and Super Duplex as well as a wide range of nickel alloy and titanium grades.

Gujar adds: “Petrotech supported our approach of working directly with end customers as it gave us the opportunity to speak directly with senior management and technical engineers of various oil and gas and EPC companies located across India. We also held a number of high level discussions about new projects.”

Oil and gas companies across India look to Fine Tubes and Superior Tube for their metallurgical expertise in processing exotic alloys to manufacture high quality tubing solutions that meet their customised technical specifications. Highly corrosion-resistant tubes offer excellent product life, reduce downtime and maintenance costs and are hence ideal for service applications in extreme environments.
