Designing the future of materials sourcing

Following the service’s launch in late 2017, the materials scientists from materials comparison site Matmatch are inviting industry professionals, academic scientists and product designers to suggest new features for its online materials database at MatX 2018. The start-up can be found on the ground level of NCC West at Bayern Innovativ’s international conference on materials innovation in Nuremberg from 27 – 28 June.

Matmatch has grown substantially in the last few months and now features over 80,000 materials, including ones from suppliers such as Alcoa, VDM Metals and Plansee. The company is looking to get thoughts from MatX visitors on what other tools or information could be added to the database to help even more people in the materials industry.

“Material requirements and demands are constantly changing. In turn, so are the challenges design engineers are faced with,” said Melissa Albeck, CEO of Matmatch. “Design engineers therefore need to be able to choose and source the best material for their product quickly and reliably.

“Our database is used as an effective tool by engineers to help them find the best material without having to scour through heaps of online data. As we introduce more people to Matmatch, we want to know how else we can help our users make materials sourcing and specification a hassle-free process.

MatX aims to bring start-ups, scientists and academics together to share products and expertise on key topics and challenges in the materials industry. Matmatch, which is based in Munich, will be joined by fifty other exhibitors including FlexHyJoin, the ACAD group and the Bavarian Research and Innovation Agency.
