5.7-in monochrome TFT delivers exceptional clarity

Industrial LCD manufacturer KOE has announced the introduction of a new 5.7-inch Monochrome TFT display module. The TX14D201MM2BAA features QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio, excellent optical performance and a high brightness LED backlight.

The monochrome TFT display produces images that are highly legible with exceptional clarity for both indoor and outdoor applications. This is due to a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and a LED backlight with a brightness rating of 1500cd/m². The LED backlight has a specified 40K hour half brightness lifetime. The display also exhibits some reflective properties (due to the absence of a colour filter) which, if the LED backlight is dimmed, enables a reduction in power consumption. Image reproduction supports up to 16 grey scales. These display characteristics make the monochrome panel an ideal solution for outdoor applications requiring a simple graphical interface.

Mark Stephenson, general manager, KOE Europe said, "The use and impact of graphical user interfaces (GUI) is becoming ever more widespread. The new 5.7-in monochrome TFT represents an option for customers who need to display precise and concise information, graphics or text without the need to resort to a colour display. We fully expect to see the new monochrome display module generate new design-in opportunities."

Monochrome TFT provides operating stability over a wide range of operating temperatures and requires no additional temperature compensation circuitry when compared with Monochrome STN technology. The display can operate and be stored in extreme temperature environments of -30°C to +80°C.

The 5.7-inch display module has mechanical outline dimensions of 131mm (w) x 104.2mm (h) x 7.8mm (d) and an active display area of 115.2mm (w) x 86.4mm (h). The display module weighs 120 gram. A 40-pin data connector supports an industry standard 8080-series MPU 8-bit parallel interface.

Typical applications for the 5.7-inch display include electric vehicle charging stations, ticketing systems, vending machines and process instrumentation.
