Durapipe’s specialist dual contained pipework system, Guardian, has been installed at a new Amstrong World Industries factory in Gateshead.
Armstrong World Industries is a global manufacturer of ceiling and floor products and commissioned ProMinent, experts in Chem-feed and water treatment, to source a pipework solution for its ceiling tile production process at its new factory.
The Guardian pipework is needed to transport Chlorine Dioxide to the waste water that is produced during the ceiling tile manufacturing process. Water is blasted onto a paper mixture to create a pulp, which is the base substance that is used in the tile production. The excess and waste process water is then transported to settlement tanks. The Guardian pipework carries the Chlorine Dioxide to the centre of each of the two settlement tanks where it mixes with the waste water for disinfection prior to discharge.
Armstrong World Industries uses 2000ppm strength Chlorine Dioxide, a high strength mixture that would be poisonous if leaked during transportation. Therefore, a dual contained pipe-in-pipe pipework system was needed to prevent leakage and safely transport the chemically dosed water, which needs a more robust container.
After investigating a variety of different options for secondary contained pipework systems, ProMinent opted for the Durapipe Guardian system due to the flexibility of its usage and its ease of installation. Its corrosion resistant properties also ensures that the pipework system operates effectively over the lifetime of the system, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
Incorporating a patented Centralok system, Durapipe Guardian is the only dual containment system which provides a solid inner pipe fitting, making it easier to install as the inner pipe is in a fixed position and can be easily jointed, compared with alternative dual containment products where the inner section moves freely.
Manufactured in PVC-U material, Durapipe Guardian allows the safe transportation of different fluids and some chemical concentrates without fear of corrosion and environmental pollution.
